The Star and Plaque program got off the ground in 2018 when the Rediscover Richard Widmark group asked the city if they could honor the one-time Princetonian with a star and plaque placed in the sidewalk in front of the Apollo Theater. That honor was granted and the star and plaque were installed in September of that year.

Richard Widmark is one of several Princetonians who left their mark nationally and internationally in the world of entertainment and media. This led to Princeton Tourism expanding on the Rediscover Richard Widmark idea by creating Princeton’s own Walk of Fame.

Since Richard Widmark’s Star and Plaque in 2018, Stars and Plaques have been installed honoring Katherine Hayes (2019), Nick Young (2020), Keith Knudsen (2021), Douglas Spencer (2022) and Gary Green (2023).  Virgil Fox will be honored in 2024.
