Walk of Fame
Main Street
Princeton, Illinois
Overview
“A History: The Star and Plaque program began in 2018 when the Rediscover Richard Widmark group asked the city if they could honor the Princetonian with a star and plaque placed in the sidewalk in front of the Apollo Theater. That honor was granted and the star and plaque were installed in September of that year.
Richard Widmark is one of several Princetonians who left their mark nationally and/or internationally in the world of entertainment and media. This led to Princeton Tourism expanding on the Rediscover Richard Widmark idea by creating Princeton’s own Walk of Fame.
Since Richard Widmark’s Star and Plaque in 2018, stars and plaques have been installed honoring Katherine Hayes (2019), Nick Young (2020), Keith Knudsen (2021), Douglas Spencer (2022) and Gary Green (2023).
To protect the intent and integrity of Princeton’s Walk of Fame, the following are Guidelines and Qualifications for honoring an individual with a star and plaque.
The Princeton Tourism Advisory Committee is now accepting nominations for our next honoree. Please see the Qualifications below and complete a Walk of Fame Nomination Application. You can download the form and email to tourism@princeton-il.com or drop off a completed form to City Hall. City Hall will have printed copies of the application available.
Honoree Qualifications
-
Individuals selected for a star and plaque must have a personal history in Princeton. See current recipient’s plaques for various examples.
-
Each recipient must be not younger than 60 years of age. This is to help ensure that a someone is not honored prior to major accomplishments that would not make the plaque due to a premature honor. An exception is premature death.
-
Each recipient, at the time of being honored, must have made a respectful name for himself or herself nationally and/or internationally in the fields of entertainment or media. See current recipient’s honoree plaques for examples.
-
Suggestions from the community on future honorees is welcomed. Please visit City Hall or www.princetontourism.org to make a nomination by filling out a Walk of Fame Nomination Application. The Tourism Advisory Committee will review all applications and vote on the years honoree. Applications will be accepted through March to be honored that year in September.”
